Every trolley hides
dozens of hidden risks.

From nitrites in cold cuts to titanium dioxide in white bread — the threats are invisible to the naked eye. We make them visible.

The additives hiding in
plain sight

They are on the label in tiny print. We decode them — and tell you the science behind why they matter.

High concern

Sodium Nitrite

E250 — Processed meats

Classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by IARC when consumed in processed meat. Forms nitrosamines in the gut which are strongly linked to colorectal cancer.

High concern

Titanium Dioxide

E171 — Sweets, sauces, bread

Banned in France and under review by the European Food Safety Authority. May cause DNA damage and disrupt gut microbiome integrity.

Moderate concern

Potassium Bromate

E924 — Bread, flour products

A possible human carcinogen (Group 2B, IARC). Still permitted in some UK products. Reacts with flour to form known carcinogenic residues when baked at lower temperatures.

Moderate concern

Butylated Hydroxyanisole

E320 — Crisps, cereals, margarine

A synthetic antioxidant classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Linked to tumour promotion in animal studies and endocrine disruption.

Moderate concern

Artificial Sweeteners

E951 / E954 — Diet drinks, yoghurts

Recent WHO guidance advises against aspartame and saccharin for weight management. Growing evidence links them to altered gut microbiome and increased long-term cancer risk.

Worth knowing

Carrageenan

E407 — Dairy, infant formula

Extracted from seaweed but linked to inflammation, gut permeability issues, and potential tumour promotion in laboratory studies. Particularly scrutinised in infant products.

Common questions

Which supermarkets do you support?

We support all major UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, ASDA, Morrisons, Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, Ocado, Aldi, Lidl, and Iceland. Both in-store paper receipts and email order confirmations are accepted.

How do I send my shop after paying?

After payment you will be redirected to a submission page where you can upload a photo or PDF of your receipt, or paste text directly — such as a product list copied from your online supermarket basket or order confirmation email. Any format works.

How long does the analysis take?

We aim to deliver your report within 48 hours of receiving your receipt. Larger shops (50+ items) may take up to 72 hours. You will receive an email notification as soon as your report is ready.

What databases do you use?

We cross-reference IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) classifications, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) opinions, WHO guidelines, and peer-reviewed studies. All findings in your report include source citations so you can read the evidence yourself.

Are the swap products more expensive?

Not always. We specifically search for safer alternatives within your existing supermarket, including own-brand options, aiming to match or come close to your original spend. Budget-conscious alternatives are flagged clearly in the report.

Is this medical advice?

No. Our service provides educational information about food additives and their associated research findings. It is not a substitute for medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional about dietary decisions related to any health condition.
